2011 INA Annual Conference
Conference Wrap Up
This year, International Nanny Association members from around the world gathered at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay in Tampa Bay, Florida, from May 12-15th, 2011, for the 26th Annual INA Conference.
With over 120 members present, nannies, agency owners, educators and other in-home childcare industry professionals gathered to improve their skills, increase their marketability and network with others from across the globe. Though attendees worked hard, attending intensive sessions presented by top-notch speakers, there was also plenty of time to enjoy the warm Florida sun as well as to enjoy the elegant restaurants on-site and in the area.
New to this year’s conference was the addition of a Newborn Care Specialist track to the agenda. Workshops like “Greenproofing Your Client’s Nursery” and “Ask the Experts” were very well attended and got rave reviews.
This year there were over 40 first-time attendees at conference. The conference orientation designed for new attendees was packed. During the conference, attendees were often charged with finding five new faces each day to introduce themselves to and as a result, many new friendships were made.
In addition to building new relationships and strengthening existing ones, the nanny track included workshops ranging from “Imagine Nation” to “Understanding Different Interview Styles” and the agency track had a large focus on technology and how to effectively integrate it into the daily operations of placement agencies.
The 2011 INA Annual Conference marked the second year that the INA Harriette Grant Service Award Pins and INA Service Award Pins were awarded to individuals in the in-home childcare industry. Thirteen attendees received their award pins or additional bars for their pins in recognition for their hard work, dedication and commitment to professional excellence.
A highlight of the Annual Conference is the presentation of the Nanny of the Year Award. Marcia Hall of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was honored as the 2011 INA Nanny of the Year recipient. Marcia is a graduate of The English Nanny & Governess School and The Academy for Coaching Parents International and is an INA Credentialed Nanny. She has worked with children and families for 14 years and currently works with a family near her home caring for two children. Marcia’s acceptance speech beautifully wove her personal life as a wife and working mother and her career as a Certified Professional Nanny together.
The Annual 50/50 Charity Raffle marks the official end of the conference, though there is always a good amount of celebrating late into the evening afterwards. This year, under the direction of our own “Raffle Queen,” Alice Schaffer, a record amount of money was raised. Donations were generous and fun was had by all. Each year INA chooses a local charity to support with half of the raffle proceeds. This year, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Tampa Bay was the charity INA chose to support.
“My goal in attending my first INA Conference was to find a resource that will help me to continue to grow as a professional nanny. I was happy to find that every workshop I attended was relevant to my current position. By the end of the conference I was excited to take what I learned and put it into practice right away. INA conferences are an invaluable resource to any nanny and I look forward to attending the 2012 INA Annual Conference.”

“I have attended multiple conferences and this conference was by far the best. It had the best location, the best food and the best speakers. I’m very impressed by the planning and attention to detail that went into the compilation of this conference. I will definitely be in attendance next year. Our agency was also so impressed with the caliber of nannies at the INA conference, so much so that we are putting together a plan to sponsor some of our nannies’ INA memberships in the hopes that they too will join this amazing organization.”

“I was so excited to see so many offerings for Newborn Care Specialists that were relevant to our work now and to furthering our opportunities in the future. Even after 25 years in the nanny industry, I learned SO much!”

“The 26th Annual International Nanny Association Conference in Tampa, Florida, was run with a standard of excellence. One of the things that stands out to me is the integrity of the nannies and agencies who attend this conference. I was honored to receive a pin for more than 10 years in service in the in-home childcare industry at the conference. It was a glorious weekend to connect with a group of industry professionals who are passionate about making a difference!”
