INA Nanny Credential Exam
The
INA Nanny Credential Exam, a 90-minute multiple choice exam, was
created as a way to measure a nanny's working knowledge in the following
areas:
- Child Development
- Family/Provider Communication
- Child Guidance
- Multicultural/Diversity Awareness
- Learning Environment
- Personal Qualities of a Nanny
- Safety
- Management Skills Health
- Nutrition
- Professionalism
Because the exam is challenging, it is strongly recommended that anyone sitting for the exam has a minimum of 2000 hours of professional childcare experience and has current certification in Infant/Child CPR and First Aid.
Some areas of the country may provide training in subjects addressed in the exam. The recommended books and computer CD's for self-study are as follows:
- Caring for Infants and Toddlers
- Caring for Preschool Children
- Caring for Children in Family Child Care

After the exam is scored, if the nanny has passed the exam, she will be given a certificate. The certificate may then be added to her/his portfolio or resume. For nannies that don't pass the exam, you may re-apply and take it again (but no sooner than six months from your first attempt).
There is a charge for taking the exam, with a discount offered to INA members.
